2008 US Kiteboarding National Championships

If you want to get into kiting you must check out course racing, but if you already are a kiteboarder get ready cause you can be a competitor as well! 10 or 70 years old, doesn’t matter, you can do it! It’s quite simple, we have upwind and downwind legs and marks to go around. Although I never said it was easy... After 5 days straight of racing, accomplishing 3 races a day, you realize that if you want to do well you need to have a certain level of endurance and fitness. I would say this event was definitely the hardest I have participated.

The cold weather and water made it even harder, you must imagine that in Brazil we don’t have the “wetsuit” word in our dictionaries... But thanks to my super nice NPX 5-4 suit, which without it wouldn’t have been possible to make it.

Guys and girls race all together, which makes me even more competitive, wanting to beat as much guys as possible... hehe... I had a lot of fun and can’t wait for next years race!

Thanks to all of my sponsors, to the team Cabrinha, including, Kent Marinkovic, Jon Modica, Damien Leroy, Todd Greaux, Melissa Gil and Mike Gabhart, which I feel very lucky to be part of. Also a special thanks to Steve Gunn and Craig Hall for being there at all moments! I couldn’t leave behind the St. Francis Yacht Club and John Gomes, which I’m too very thankful for making this such a special and well organized event.

Course racing is a fairly new modality in kitesurfing and it has an immense  potential. It would be our only chance to make it into the Olympic games. To learn more about the rules or general information visit https://app1.regatta-manager.com/Regatta/RegattaDocuments.do
