Best trip ever!

French Polynesia...

Claiming it the “best trip ever” is not exaggeration! It’s so true!

French Polynesia is a magical place where everything happens. I was there for 3 weeks  exploring it as much as possible. I hopped around  in a few of the hundreds of stunning islands, searching for the best conditions of kiting and surfing. What I found was too good to be truth! Perfect shaped waves, the most clear and crystal water you’ll ever see, warm and sunny weather, no crowed and compassionate attitude. The water in particular captivated me! So many shades of greens and blues, like God has dumped thousands of buckets full of turquoise stones all over the ocean.

I was on a boat for 2 out of the 3 weeks, which made it a lot easier to find waves, wind or just secluded spots where, possibly, nobody ever kited or no girl ever surfed before.

However, I also kitesurfed and surfed in some of the known breaks, which I was impressed, if not shocked, by the way  the locals behaved. Coming from Maui’s surf culture, I would‘ve never thought that such a friendly, hospitable and sympathetic spirit was possible to exist in the surf spots of Polynesia. I was touched by how everyone was always cheering to each other’s waves, giving away or just sharing waves, and for the entire time with a big glowing genuine smile in there faces.

Besides the best surf, kitesurf and dive sessions of my life, I’ve had an incredible spiritual experience while traveling in French Polynesia. There is a fair amount of raw nature and maintained culture, which to me, was fascinating to be around! A true magical setup!

I also have to tell you some more details about the spectacular dive I did in Tikehau Island. Visibility was nearly 100 feet, and on the first 5 minutes down in it we caught a glimpse of a 8-9 foot Hammerhead shark chasing this gigantic but graceful Manta Ray! from then on the dive was followed by many attractions like turtles, humungous Tuna and Napoleon fish, 6 foot barracudas, dolphins and a multitude of other species of sea creatures. It’s utopia above as well as under the water!

I highly recommend to everyone to go check out this place that can easily be called paradise!

I’d have to thank plenty of people that helped make this breathtaking trip happen, including Wendy and Larry Barels along with all their crew from Kauhele Kai vessel; Gavin McClurg, Jody MacDonald and their crew from Best Odyssey; Rob Born and Moe Goold. A double thanks to Jody MacDonald, who took all of the amazing action shots.

Aloha, Peace and love!
